1. Shoot at golden hour. The first and last hour of daylight give softer light and richer color, and it's also when wildlife tends to be most active.

2. Get low. Crouching or shooting from the vehicle window at the animal's eye level makes for a far more dramatic photo than shooting down at it.

3. Focus on the eyes. Whatever else is in frame, a sharp focus on the subject's eyes makes the shot feel alive.

4. Leave space to breathe. Don't zoom all the way in, leaving room around your subject lets the landscape tell part of the story too.

5. Steady your shot. Brace your phone or camera against the vehicle frame (engine off) to avoid blur, especially in low light.
